Live course

Eight curriculum credit hours

Student Ethics

Learn to handle confidentiality, consent, boundaries, and professional relationships in spiritual practice. This self-paced course documents eight curriculum credit hours toward the ethics requirement before Level 2.

Required curriculum course

Who this course is for

Student Ethics is required before an official SCSCMA student can advance to Level 2 in either Mediumship or Healing. Complete the course and pass the final assessment to receive a certificate documenting eight curriculum credit hours.

Level 2 also requires Basic Principles and History of Spiritualism (12 hours) and Platform 101 (12 hours). See the Level 2 courses.

If you are not an official SCSCMA student yet, you can complete the course now. Keep your certificate and apply the completed credit if you enter the official student program later.

You will work through practical questions: What should remain confidential? How do you set a professional boundary? When does a situation fall outside your role?

The lessons use realistic situations to help you recognize a problem, consider your options, and understand the consequences of your response.

What the course covers

The course is organized into six areas, followed by review and assessment.

01 · Making ethical decisions

Distinguish ethics from personal morals, compare ways of reasoning through a decision, and examine the blind spots in your own approach.

02 · Professional relationships

Examine the relationship between medium and client, transference, and appropriate boundaries when working with a student.

03 · Conducting a reading

Set expectations before a session, respond when a reading is not working, and consider the differences between public platform work and private appointments.

04 · Touch and healing

Explore consent, appropriate contact, public and private healing, fitness to serve, and the responsibility to avoid promising results.

05 · Confidentiality and professional limits

Study confidentiality, recording consent, clergy privilege, and the limits of your role. Legal lessons identify their Florida context.

06 · Professional presence

Consider appearance, demeanor, ego, and the Spiritualist principles that inform responsible service.

How you learn

Each lesson introduces an idea, presents a situation, and asks you to choose a response. Feedback explains the consequences of that choice so you can connect the principle to practice.

Assessment and completion

Lesson checks help you practice applying the material. A final assessment must be passed before a certificate of completion is issued. There are no essays or written assignments submitted to an evaluator.

What the certificate means: It documents completion of Student Ethics and eight curriculum credit hours. It does not by itself grant professional licensure, ordination, SCSCMA membership, a teaching permit, or certification as a medium or healer.
